Have you ever received a pretty package in the mail that made you happy? I have, and I've got to say that I love receiving packages like this. You can tell that the shop owner put a lot of thought into every last detail of their packaging and branding and it adds a level of professionalism to their shop. From the pretty logo stamp on the muslin bag, to the gold polka dot tissue paper wrapped with bakers twine, these packages are definitely something you won't forget any time soon.
Branded packaging is important for businesses for this reason. You want to create an experience for your customers; something they will remember. You want them to come back because your shop makes them feel special. It's not just handmade shops that package their items with extra care, Victoria's Secret wraps each item with tissue, adding something special to the experience. Other retail stores do the same thing. I even had an associate spray the tissue paper with perfume once when I purchased an item. It really makes you stand out, and can one day lead to more sales or talk about your shop either via social media or among friends.
There are some key things to think about when coming up with your packaging. Colors, textures, and overall composition are things you should start to think about. You want this to be an extension of your branding for your shop, and a reflection of who you are. Be sure to add your logo to some of the items and keep everything consistent and cohesive. Take a photo of your package ready to be shipped and add it to your listing photos. Really have fun with it - get out a pencil and paper and start brainstorming ideas.
Things you might want to incorporate into your packaging:
• Your business card - this is a must!
• A handwritten note
• Thank you card
• Social media card - list them all so they can follow you!
• Coupon code (offer a percentage off their next order to encourage repeat customers)
• Stamped Muslin Bag - have a stamp made with your company logo!
• Tags - tie with pretty ribbon or bakers twine
• Paper crinkle
• Confetti - just don't go overboard
• Pretty tissue paper - options are endless!
• Fun stickers or labels - "Happy Mail" or "Handmade with Love" are some good ones!
• Washi Tape
• A pencil with your company name or logo on it
There are so many ways to be creative when it comes to your packaging. I've included some examples below to inspire you even more.
